Batt insulation — fiberglass or mineral wool — is the most common insulation type in residential construction and the right choice for many standard applications. Properly installed (cut to fit, no compression, fully filling the cavity) it performs to its rated R-value. We install batt insulation correctly for homeowners throughout Amarillo and Potter County.
Proper Batt Installation
Batt insulation underperforms when it's compressed, improperly sized, or installed with gaps. Compressed batts lose R-value — a full-depth batt crammed into a shallower cavity delivers less than rated performance. Batts that don't fully fill the cavity sides have edge gaps that allow convective air movement. We cut and fit batts correctly for the cavity dimensions and fill all gaps — this is where DIY installations often fall short.
Fiberglass vs. Mineral Wool
Fiberglass batts are the standard and widely available. Mineral wool (rock wool) batts have similar R-values per inch but offer better fire resistance, better sound attenuation, and are moisture-resistant — useful in specific applications like garage walls or where fire separation is a concern. We can advise on when the mineral wool premium is worth it for your project.
